Kora, goddess of spring and queen of the underworld

Persephone or Kora is the only daughter of Demeter, goddess of harvests and protector of nature in Greek mythology. She was raised in secret by her mother in Sicily. The goddess was as fresh as a flower bud and as dewy as the fruit that slowly ripens in the sun. At her mother's side, she learned the secrets of nature and the properties of different grains and plants. 

But on a day that seemed like any other, our goddess was kidnapped by Hades, the god of the underworld. Hades had been watching Kora for a long time and secretly coveted her. He knew Demeter was very protective of her only child, so he waited for a moment when she was not present.

Upon her return, the goddess of nature was devastated by the mysterious disappearance of her daughter. Her grief was such that nothing grew in the mortal realm and a long and terrible famine ensued. Zeus, god of Olympus was alarmed by these sinister events. Zeus then asked Hades to free Kora. Persephone then remained a prisoner of the king of the underworld because no one could leave the underworld without the king's agreement.

The situation of the human kingdom becoming worrying, Zeus concludes an agreement between Demeter and Hades, Persephone will have to share her time between the earth and the underworld. 

Demeter let her joy burst forth, on the return of her daughter, by making the fields green again and covered the trees with flowers and buds. But as soon as Kora returned to the underworld, Demeter became sad and austere again and with her nature. The comings and goings of Kora reproduce the cycle of the seasons and give way to spring when she returns to her mother.
